Volunteer

one of the best gifts is the gift of time…

Looking for Dedicated Volunteers

Looking to donate your time and give to the community? Look no further!…

The Scholastic Chess Institute is looking for volunteers to assist the chess instructors during class time and during casual matches. Depending on the needs of the session, volunteers may be asked to be opponents for other players, or they may given the task of helping beginners, such as simply making sure students are not making illegal moves.  Often volunteers may be called upon to answer basic chess related questions.  If this appears to be something for you or your child, please enroll in our volunteer program!

Aside from having a deep and meaningful impact on the chess students and the chess community, in general, there are many long lasting personal benefits to volunteering.

Benefits include:

  • Gaining invaluable experience working with others
  • Making new friends and advancing social and relationship skills
  • Learning to teach and/or improving teaching skills
  • Building self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Increasing motivation and attaining a sense of achievement
  • Enhancing résumé for college or any other future pursuits
  • Studies have shown that volunteering can increase future career options
